Quality of Life - Cycling and more!

Elgin biking-1 I consider myself fortunate for the privilege of designing, building, and selling new homes in the Elgin area, but that is only part of the story. Living in Elgin will fuel your passion for everything outdoors. If you are considering Elgin for your family consider this. Elgin's proximity to Wichita Wildlife Refuge, Fort Sill, Lake Lawtonka, and Lake Ellsworth allows for some of the best cycling, camping, hiking, and natural lake swimming imaginable. You can park in the Elmer Thomas parking lot on the refuge and take advantage of a new asphalt pathway running adjacent to hwy 49. This 6-7 foot wide path is perfect for the family to experience nature and get some excellent exercise. This smooth path winds it's way through the Wichita's approximately 10 miles in one direction, however any distance is possible with the oppurtunity for turning and heading back home.

And for the more adventurous, a new single track advanced mountainbike course is in the works along with the existing unimproved bike trail connecting the parallel forest in the refuge to
Lake Elmer Thomas. We are very excited about this development. The terrain adjacent to Lake Lawtonka promises to be a perfect recipe for an awe inspiring mountainbike course. For those wanting more information feel free to contact me. If not, no worries, I will continue to bore you to death with the details on the developing single track mountainbike course.

Why am I offering this information? I'm glad you asked. Not long ago while on a city search forum I saw a conversation that went like this:

Ted: Hi Tom, I just received a promotion and I can live in one following places: A. Fort Chaffe Arkansas B. Fort Sill Oklahoma. And you know I am addicted to mountain biking. Since you were stationed in Fort Sill what is it like? Are there any dedicated single track mountainbike courses in the area?

Tom: NO. However there are miles of peaceful paved roads on post and on the refuge for scenic road riding.

Ted: That's great for those skinny tired road riders :) but I'm a fat tire guy, a guy who likes to get dirty and sweat alot. Sorry to hear there is not a dedicated MB course, that's a shame with the mountains and lakes in the area, gee... I'm moving to Fort Chaffee. Call me in Arkansas in a few weeks.

End of conversation... click.

I'm looking to the future and want to maximize the quality of life in SW Oklahoma so the previous conversation or "those similar" will end in a different result. We have too many attributes to list in one fourm, however return and I promise I will do my best to bore you more with QUALITY OF LIFE IN SOUTHWEST OKLAHOMA.
